About

Marybeth Marsh is the Associate Registrar at Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, where she works behind the scenes to care for, document, and preserve the artwork that makes the museum such a special place. With a background that bridges studio art, art history, and museum studies, Marybeth brings both a creative and historical perspective to her work in the museum field.

Her interest in art began with a love of making art — exploring the ways everyday materials can be transformed into something meaningful through their connection to the people and communities who create them. Throughout her career, Marybeth has enjoyed exploring the many connections between art, history, and material culture.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University with Minors in Cultural Anthropology and Museum Studies.  Soon after, she joined the Michigan State University Museum as Project Lead in their Textile Rehousing and Photography Project, researching and caring for historical collections while finding ways to make it more accessible to the public through digital access and interpretive education. She later pursued a master’s degree in Scotland at the University of Glasgow, completing the MLitt Art History: Dress and Textiles Histories Program.

Marybeth is especially interested in the stories that objects and artworks hold, and the many ways art can connect people across different experiences and generations. She enjoys approaching museum work with both an artist's curiosity and a registrar's attention to detail, believing that caring for art is also about preserving the creativity, ideas, and stories of the community behind it.
