Workshop Description:

Join artist and educator John Well-Off-Man for an introduction to the exciting world of linocut printmaking. Participants will begin by visiting John’s exhibition, “Language, Land, & Resistance”, where he will share the inspiration and creative process behind his work.

Students will then use linocut blocks created and carved by John to explore the basics of relief printing, experiment with different inks, and learn how to prepare and apply ink. John will also demonstrate how to use a printing press and will guide participants through pulling their own prints. This hands-on workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from an accomplished exhibiting artist.

Artist Bio:
John Well-Off-Man is a member of the Chippewa-Cree Tribe, born in Havre, Montana, and raised in Havre and on the Rocky Boy Reservation. A photographer, printmaker, and educator, John holds degrees from the Institute of American Indian Arts and the University of Montana. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in museum collections, including the Montana Museum of Art & Culture. In 2009, he received a $15,000 Ford Foundation artist residency at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. He currently teaches drawing and 2-D design at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
