Internship/ Volunteer Opportunities

Docent

The primary function of a Docent at The Square is to serve as a tour guide for current museum exhibits. Many docents get to work with Great Falls Public School 3rd grade students as visits to The Square serve a portion of their curriculum. Additionally there are opportunities to work with early childhood, middle and high school students, special needs groups, and adults.

Volunteer

Should you not be interested in serving as a tour guide, there are opportunities to volunteer under the following categories:

  • Educational Support: Art Material Preparation

  • Class/ Workshop Presenter

  • Class/ Workshop Assistant

  • General Assistance: Office Support

Ceramics Department Internship

Semester internships are available to college students with the option of credit depending on the higher education institution. This is an excellent opportunity for students to get a full working knowledge on how to run a ceramics studio.

Projects vary, but students will leave with in depth knowledge of technical ceramics materials and processes, and pre-student teaching classroom experience for education majors.

Knowledge gained from this internship includes:

  • Glaze Chemistry & Mixing

  • Making Clay

  • Kiln Loading and Firing

  • Teaching Assistance

  • General studio and equipment maintenance

Internships are available for spring, summer, and fall semesters.

 Education Department Internship

Semester internships are available to college students with the option of credit depending on the higher education institution. This is an excellent opportunity for students to get behind-the scenes experience working with the education department at one of the leading contemporary art museums in Montana.

Projects vary, but students will leave with in depth knowledge of museum education, pre-student teaching classroom experience and first hand knowledge of education administration.

Internships are available for spring, summer, and fall semesters.
