Patrick Smith: At the Ends of the Earth
Dufresne & Cobb Foundations Gallery
October 23 – December 31, 2008
Reception October 23, 2008 - 5:30 – 7:30 pm*
Patrick Smith has explored the extreme regions of the Earth as a member of numerous scientific teams that have ventured to the Antarctic and Greenland as recently as this summer. His work not only records the sublimity and beauty of these extreme environments, but he utilizes a wry poetic wit in numerous biographic, photographic accounts. The work often explores the passing of time in a most imaginative and evocative manner set against the chilling desolation of these far-flung regions.
Patrick Smith received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, in 1980 and his work is represented in the permanent collections of the Yellowstone Art Museum, Billings, Montana; New Orleans Museum of Art, Louisiana; National Science Foundation, Washington, D.C. and the South Pole Research Station, Antarctica.
