George Longfish: A Retrospective

George Longfish, who is Seneca and Tuscarora, is known for his vivid paintings exploring issues of Native identity. This exhibition features work, by this internationally known artist, from the past 35 years beginning with pieces he created while serving as Director of The University of Montana’s graduate program in American Indian Art, 1972-73.

In addition to his tenure at the University of Montana, George Longfish served as Professor of Historical and Contemporary Native Arts at the University of California, Davis from 1973 to 2003 and directed the University’s C.N. Gorman Museum from 1974 to 1996. He earned his MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1972. He currently resides in South Berwick, Maine.
