The seated version of these T’ai Chi exercises can be practiced at home or at work, in an easy chair or a wheelchair, without the need for expensive equipment or special clothing. With no stress on joints or bones, seated T’ai Chi is particularly helpful for those who suffer from arthritis. T’ai Chi provides a life-long exercise system that delivers improved health and greater strength the longer you practice it. Exercises include specific movements for proper breathing, upper and lower body strengthening, and mental stimulation, resulting in the release of nourishing energy for body, mind and spirit. Loose clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended.

This is a beginner level Yang short form Tai Chi class. Students will learn the
classic form of 24 postures. Tai Chi has proven over the centuries to have many health benefits. It
may be the single most effective tool for combating asthma, poor digestion, weight gain,
sleeplessness, high blood pressure, heart disease, stress, fatigue and a multitude of other ailments
brought about by our modern, multi-tasking lifestyle. Tai Chi movements may be re-designed
with minimal modifications to suit the needs of everyone, regardless of age or level of fitness. It is
simple enough to learn in a short period of time but so effective and adaptable that you will want to
continue using it throughout your life.

Paris Gibson Square now offers an intermediate level T’ai Chi class. This is an on-going, hour-long class specifically for those with some experience in the Yang short form of T’ai Chi. Though designed as a fitness class, students will also learn the original martial art applications of T’ai Chi Chuan. Warm-up includes breathing and centering exercises and Qigong combinations. Time permitting there is a cool down session at the end of class that consists of self-massage and healing acupressure. If you have taken the beginner class at The Square or a T’ai Chi class elsewhere and want to continue your study of this ancient art, we invite you to join us.
